It is a simple motif that can be worked with a ball and shuttle and the beads are not pre-strung. 

It is a prototype I made to show beads over/on a picot. These beads are slipped over the long measured picots at the time of joining. Or they can be slipped over the picot while it is being formed, and held with a paper clip or marker. I prefer the former to avoid beads and clips getting in the way of smooth tatting.

I deliberately chose to do a mock ring since I did not know how big I wanted it. And then made an under-over or alligator join across the start of the chain. There are several ways to make the under-over join (alligator join is only one of them). The diagram in the PDF is simply a guide. You can choose to tat with two shuttles if you wish to empty them of leftover threads. You can even work the mock ring as a true ring and without need for an under-over join. 

For a plain, flat leaf, avoid any beads on the picots. 

I used 4mm beads, but you can choose smaller ones and adjust their number accordingly. Oh dear, I've been so flaky lately that I forgot to take a pic of this on a chain. Hmm, not too difficult to imagine, right?

This is such a quick tat, really, and easily adaptable to any thread and bead size. Or go all around for a floral motif! Hope you enjoy the pattern.

 As part of the ongoing #InflateMeEndrucks game in May, I couldn't resist inflating this leaf! The E15 leaf doodle post was among the top 5 for several days, enticing me constantly. The motif is such a quick tat, that I succumbed.  All links at the end of post ....

This time I made it into a pendant. Although I wouldn't mind tatting a pair as earrings.

The original motif on the left. However since there were absolutely no picots along the edge, I ended up tatting 2 motifs, adding tiny picots on the outer chains.

TIP: If the Chain H is reduced from 6 to 4 stitches (left motif), the leaf comes out flatter.

TIP: Notice that the two motifs are tatted as mirror images. I followed the same diagram, but started with a backside ring.

I had also sewn in the bugle bead vein in both. 

This time I followed Pitsibaa's instructions to the T. And as I had stated, it is certainly easier to sew individual motifs than to join as one tats. More freedom, hassle-free tatting, ....

And I also remembered to blot out any extra glue solution, LOL.

After it had dried, I added the beaded chain for the pendant.

I didn't stuff the center, since I wanted the beaded veins to show through.

Future Idea - Increase the length of the joining picots between the motifs instead of keeping them tiny. So that when it is stiffened for inflation a filigree effect is visible along the seams!

And on a side note, here's another way to inflate leaves, LOL. 

This savory snack or side dish is called 'patra' or 'patode'. Arbi/colocasia leaves are layered, rolled, steamed, and sliced. They can be eaten as is (ones on the right), tempered, 'roasted' in little oil for crispiness (like the ones on the left), or deep fried. In Delhi, we don't normally get arbi leaves in the market, so I used to grow my own in pots every monsoon, using the vegetable bulb itself. Then the bought veggies were probably treated and they stopped germinating. Seeds didn't work either. 

Yesterday, my lovely hubby surprised me by finding the leaves in an online store (they have a couple of outlets as well) based in Delhi and bought them without my knowledge! He paid more than the cost of the 6 leaves as delivery charges but it was so worth it. Very good quality, large leaves. The rolled log was at least 12 inches long. After 15 to 20 years, I finally got to make and eat these. Thankfully I hadn't forgotten how, LOL. Plenty of slices still in the fridge. 

TIP: I used the soft silicon spatula to apply the paste between layers. It was so easy, quick, and mess-free!

 This month's game in our FB group is Multiply Me Oct2023 (#MultiplyMeEndrucks). We chose one motif - the Square Diamond motif derived from Endrucks' pattern #37 and asked participants to tat More than One motif. That's it! So far we have 15 participants and 41.5 motifs in various avatars!

Since 2020, I have tatted numerous motifs for the main pattern presentation and also because I just so like the design! I had lost count but now took the time to count from my stored pics and they total 21, worked in various threads, shades, and applications.

However, for this game I will only be counting 3 earrings since I sewed in embellishments late last month, and one that I found a few days with only the starting few rounds done! Obviously I had to finish it in order to participate ethically, LOL.

E37 earrings worked from left to right in Lixbeth 20, Anchor pearl cotton 8, and Anchor MC 40. These were the only free motifs I could find in my stash and sewed in beads, teardrops, hooks, etc.

I tried a different style of embellishment for each.

Obviously the inclusion of seed beads would've made the earrings look more finished and put together, but I had no energy to tat. Even this sewing was done at the very last moment despite the idea, since I couldn't even garner the energy to gather my beading supplies. 

This is the E37 Snowflake adaptation. Multiplication of motifs not merely in numbers but in the number of repeats! I can't remember what my original design plan was (except for the 6 repeats) or even when I'd started it. However it turned out kind of okay - more like a flower. Yes, a flower flake!

Idea: If the chains on either side ot the thrown ring at the tip, were yo face inwards, it would give a pointier, more snowflakish loo, I think.

It's the first time I have used wide picots in any pattern! Each arm also has a modified stitch count. I can share if there is enough interest. It ruffled something fierce, but blocking flattened it out.

And last but in no way the least is Ninetta's Iris Pendant - a beaded version of the E37 motif adapted for a pendant. When we were planning this game, she offered to tat one in metallic thread and she came up with this beauty and also shared her pattern!

Some are beautiful new adaptations, some are tatted from existing patterns, and some are newly derived patterns! It has become almost a given that every game throws up a few new variations and patterns to add to our directories.

The pendant/earring clearly showed a heart in its design and I merely needed to enhance the heart shape.

E7 - Beaded Edging for Queen of Hearts costume

In her own words - 

"This is the pattern I will start with. I am making a Queen of Hearts costume this year and this will be perfect for the lace edging. Thank you for creating the English pattern and posting it.

This is the 2nd attempt. I want the finished lace to look like a row of queen’s heads. I like the gold thread but I think the seed beads at the top will be clear glass and I want to insert red glass faceted beads on the “crown” as well. They have been ordered and if they don’t fit, I will have to adjust the pattern. It is hard to find tiny faceted beads!"

We look forward to the completed edging and the costume!

12. Sally Biggers - has been creating new derivatives or adaptations and sharing the patterns as well! This time is was a pendant but she noticed a couple of mistakes and tatted a second model.

"As my #wearmeEndrucks challenge for May, 2023, I have created a pendant using Lisbeth Metallic Thread #325 (Gem Stone), a single Precosia 3 x 4 mm faceted Crystal bead and 10 silver lined crystal beads (11/0) around the edge of the motif.

I modified Pattern #10 from Frau Endrucks' book"

And here's a TIP from Sally - 

"Metallic thread was used in this pattern because I enjoy the bling it gives to earrings and pendants. Metallic threads are made from synthetic fibers so they don't absorb oils from the body, and don't tend to become discolored the way cotton and other threads will with wear."

"This E4 I replaced all the picots with beads and put after each ds. did with chain sts. also used 10 lb monofilament fishing line for the core thread.this gives a little stiffness."

"This was made to honor the new King (of UK) and our veterans. Made from E4. The star represents the USA and the pearls are like in scripture: the pearl that was hidden and looked for. That's how I see the heroes of war. Of course the opulence of metallics is for the Royals. It was for the new King and the colors are also the flag of both country's." 

5. Daniela Galli - was inspired by Anna's version and strove to tat her own version.
