I have often updated a post (highlighted as 'UPDATE') without any separate notification. This time I thought a special post would be good for those interested since there are quite a few. Yet as I list them, I find some should be accompanied with a photo. Hence while I rectify that omission, here is part 1 of the updates in no particular order ....

I was very impressed with the way Ninetta had started her ring seamlessly without making any 'join' by using the same joining loop as a ring loop. Well, forgetful brain did not put two and two together especially considering I have used this method before. It is basically the Ring on Picot technique which Patty Dowden demonstrated in this video -https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LmMxIBrDpRI

When I wrote about Fringe Tatting and the Tatted Fringe I did not highlight that beads could be used for the fringe, too. Eventually I made a beaded fringe inspired by and following Corina Meyfeldt's directions for Beaded Stem. Nina Libin called it Single File Beaded Picot.  The beads are pre-strung on the shuttle or ball thread depending on the pattern and each fringe or beaded picot is moved in place when needed.

This method is fine for a limited number of fringe elements/picots with a limited number of beads on each or if all the beads are on the ball thread.

I had sent the vapour stitch bouquet pic for PICOT Bingo, but couldn't complete the game in the way I had intended and imagined. 5 boxes still left to cross out. Natalie, too, has uploaded a 2025 bingo card, but I won't be participating. See how disciplined I am being this year?! ;-D

what a killing

I actually could've said 'killing two birds with one stone' but its not an idiom I like when birds are so cute. In this case I have made a killing in more than two ways. Read on ...

There are always tons of inspiring allurements and distractions in Tat Land. But I do my best to avoid or choose only those I can weave into my own jam-packed life. This year, I came across two such almost non-structured games which I should be able to manage through the year. 

And this is my submission to both games simultaneously - the E37 Flower Flake and Star derived and adapted from Frau Endrucks' pattern #37 from her 1920 book, ‘Die Schiffchen-Spitzen’ and the modern reworking of E37 Square Diamond Motif. I had shared the prototype flower flake pattern, but it did not lay flat (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/10/wanna-multiply.html).

I killed my wide picots, sadly, with untidy stitches beneath the arch. I have now learned the correct method and will share in a future post. The twist in some picots is merely because I drove the pin in too deep when blocking, LOL, and didn't bother to correct it. The patterns will be shared, too. after I make an ice drop version with nicer wide picots.

Splocik announced a new game for 2024 'Small Decorations' wherein we can tat any kind of decoration per month. Easy enough. This snowflake and star are my decorations for January.

Simultaneously, I started with Natalie Roger's (Tat Your Own Adventure) PICOT Bingo. You can download the game here - https://www.patreon.com/posts/picot-bingo-95729145?. Uh-oh, I seem to have missed a crucial point! I thought this one bingo card would last for the year. Looks like it is only for the month. If so, I won't get any bingo this time. Must confirm with Natalie.

UPDATE (22 Jan 2024) - Phew, Natalie tells me the card remains same for the entire year. However if we complete it, we can request for a new card.

14. Maria Renee C de Andretta - was happy to have accomplished her 'challenge'.

15. Mariola Siwek - was also full of joy with her "antique blue snowflake". She used thread Kaja/15 from Ariadna company.

16. Martina Reinhold - promised this was her "first flock and many more to come"! We'll be waiting.

17. Meenakshi (Muskaan) Jain - These are two of my completed flakes. I had started the designprocess back in March (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/03/antics.html) as an offshoot idea from the Feb game. 

This is actually a pale lavender Olympus size 40 (more clearly visible here - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/11/flaky-antics.html) but the background changed it to almost white.

This one is in Lizbeth size 20. Interestingly both threads are the same size despite the labels.

18. Ninetta Caruso - graciously worked the flake for a stepwise pictorial and also uploaded a video for split chain! Details shared here - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/11/game-antics.html 

19. Pam Bray - also learned a few techniques through this flake and was satisfied with her first trial.

20. Paola Bevilacqua - tatted her's in silver metallic and ....

... then added blue & white beads and suspended it within a wreath...

Spectacular!

21. Paola Emilia Rotuletti - is arguably the Fastest Shuttler in our group, usually belting out multiple versions in several of our games! She won the contest in December last year, too.

Her first which she wasn't satisfied with, 

and then went on to make FIVE more, each in a different shade! The top right is worked in 2 colours.

22. Pina Barone - "Inspiring reason to learn new execution techniques."

23. Riva Nudelman - a golden beauty .... 

"For H I tried ring on ring technique instead of SCMR. It worked for me better."

We are spoiled for choices! Tatting techniques offer a wide range of options and we can choose to apply whichever we prefer without altering the pattern in any way.

24. Silvana Buonvino - created a lovely Christmassy effect with the addition of red berry-like crystal beads!

25. Sophie Ecru - "Its such a joy and fun to make these for my preparation of the coming Xmas! Absolutely recommend tatting lovers to make one. ...... Threads: @gaeul_toto ETTE HDT#60&#30, @alloyoung Lizbeth HDT#40"

Honestly, like I said in my previous post, it is so difficult to choose only one as the lead pic for each post! Making a collage doesn't help, with the images miniaturized. 

And as I post this, Melanie Cervi has already started her flake, and Jane McLellan has it in her to-tat-again list! (http://picotsnkeys.blogspot.com/2023/12/another-interruption.html). I will update accordingly - in fact there is a lineup of late arrivals for various other games and these will all be posted together in a roundup of roundups ;-D

For the present, though we have 25 'known' participants and 42 models/versions!

As always, Ninetta joins me in thanking each of our participants, not just for tatting and showing at least one snowflake, but in many cases for learning something new so that they could work the motif!

Loved tatting this project in HH Lizbeth and Handy Hands metallic thread (although I had to pull hard to get the rings to close using the metallic thread).

And this is her 8-arm version. As I had said in the above post, I forgot to change the 8-point repeat (as in original Endrucks' #42) to 6 repeats in my written instructions and she went ahead and worked this beautiful version.

She used beads in the center and around the central ring.

And wowed everybody with this spectacular rendition in several different shades of metallic threads and strategically placed beads!

Well bowing to popular demand yesterday, I worked on the pattern presentation today. Remember, it is still a prototype pattern that could do with some improvements.  This month's game in our FB group is Multiply Me Oct2023 (#MultiplyMeEndrucks). We chose one motif - the Square Diamond motif derived from Endrucks' pattern #37 and asked participants to tat More than One motif. That's it! So far we have 15 participants and 41.5 motifs in various avatars!

Since 2020, I have tatted numerous motifs for the main pattern presentation and also because I just so like the design! I had lost count but now took the time to count from my stored pics and they total 21, worked in various threads, shades, and applications.

However, for this game I will only be counting 3 earrings since I sewed in embellishments late last month, and one that I found a few days with only the starting few rounds done! Obviously I had to finish it in order to participate ethically, LOL.

E37 earrings worked from left to right in Lixbeth 20, Anchor pearl cotton 8, and Anchor MC 40. These were the only free motifs I could find in my stash and sewed in beads, teardrops, hooks, etc.

I tried a different style of embellishment for each.

Obviously the inclusion of seed beads would've made the earrings look more finished and put together, but I had no energy to tat. Even this sewing was done at the very last moment despite the idea, since I couldn't even garner the energy to gather my beading supplies. 

This is the E37 Snowflake adaptation. Multiplication of motifs not merely in numbers but in the number of repeats! I can't remember what my original design plan was (except for the 6 repeats) or even when I'd started it. However it turned out kind of okay - more like a flower. Yes, a flower flake!

Idea: If the chains on either side ot the thrown ring at the tip, were yo face inwards, it would give a pointier, more snowflakish loo, I think.

It's the first time I have used wide picots in any pattern! Each arm also has a modified stitch count. I can share if there is enough interest. It ruffled something fierce, but blocking flattened it out.

And last but in no way the least is Ninetta's Iris Pendant - a beaded version of the E37 motif adapted for a pendant. When we were planning this game, she offered to tat one in metallic thread and she came up with this beauty and also shared her pattern!
