and more

Pin It now!

After reading my posts, Elisabeth Dobler took up the challenge and quickly sent me her version of the DAL Celtic Snowflake, designing a third round and also tweaking the first motif to incorporate Celtic knot picots! And she graciously shared the pattern, too, becoming our 21st participant. It took me some time to diagram it, though. But here it is ....

I realise only now while inking and uploading that we forgot to mention the beads in the center. It looks like she used two beads on each picot and made a swirl join at the end.
There are Maltese rings at the tips and the thinner metallic thread picots fill the ring.

Elisabeth has a way with picots! If you are on Facebook or Instagram, you should look up her work and how she elegantly transforms the models. Her impeccable tatting is so inspiring, too. She frequently sends me pics of her work and I will soon share a few here.

Before I forget, you can find the pattern and all details in this Google Docs -https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pVqM6S5Ng49xk6erSsDyRm3y7SdV2tCIUOCgltze4lM/view

And I also know of two other tatters who tatted the snowflakes -
and Padma M chose to tat Mariola Siwek's version which she shared in her FB account -
UPDATE (Dec2024): The pattern (diagram for Padma's variation is also uploaded in the above document.

Many thanks to all for your participation! Being inspired and inspiring others is an unending cycle of creativity!

a collective gift 2

Pin It now!

Life has taken on this unhealthy habit of getting in my way! It took me way longer to publish this post than was required. I also apologise to all my blogger friends for not commenting, even though most times I read the posts. Without much ado, here's part 2, with patterns. Read part 1 here - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2024/11/a-collective-gift-1.html

12. Mariola Siwek - drew her visualization overnight and her tatted replication did full justice to the diagram!

However, the stitch count numbers on the image were not sharp, so I had started diagramming it first. I am happy to say that at least this diagrammed pattern is now in the Google Docs. Link at the end.

13. Ninetta Caruso - designed Rounds 3 to 5 and tatted two models with options and also prepared a PDF!

This version has treble tatting in Round 3.

14. Paola Bevilacqua - designed Round 3 and converted her model into an ice drop!
Watch her short video showing work in progress -https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iXWwtyBrJp2o5Sb2GUMh8FO5MAKk-QFt/view

15. Silvana Buonvino - designed Round 3 with onion rings!
It has that fractal feel, doesn't it?

16. Stella Marina - designed Round 3 but with the models coming in, she decided to go for a bit more stylish decoration and overlapping chains!

17. Vani Kattoju - designed Round 3 and tatted two models and then went on to design a 4th round in her third model!

Nice dendrites in the fourth round!

18. Wanda Salmans - designed Rounds 3 & 4 and shared her journey, thoughts, and process in her blog post (https://www.wandasknottythoughts.com/2023/06/old-edging-and-a-dal-snowflake/) and also spoke about it in her inaugural YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsD-3AkFODQ&feature=youtu.be.
The snowflake looks good even after Round 3.

Such a difference in shades!

19. Dan Grady - started tatting his Round 3 design but the work is still not complete; obviously discarded a long time back.

20. Muskaan - designed Round 3 and shared pics and design journey in the following posts -https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/05/problem.html

And as promised, I am sharing the article (I removed the QR codes and added an Author's note) which has the pattern as well.

*******************

AND now for all the patterns you are hopefully waiting for and have kept your shuttles/needles ready--

Feel free to join in the challenge by designing your own rounds or choose and tat any of the 25 patterns listed in the doc above. Do send me pics and feedback to be shared with the respective designer or to add you to the 20 designing friends!

Notice that you can interlace the first two motifs as you wish. Some designers chose one, some the other although to keep things simple I had shared only the model on the right in my invitation.

Many many many thanks to each and every participant for your wonderful and inspiring work(s) and for sharing it with the tatting community. It is indeed tremendous fun designing with friends!

snowflake me roundup 2

Pin It now!

Continuing our journey from part 1 (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/12/snowflake-me-roundup-1.html) where we showcased the works of 12 participants along with links to the #SnowflakeMeEndrucks Nov2023 game, here are more ....

13. Margaret Davies - has been a regular participant despite life getting in the way frequently, and we truly appreciate all her work! You can read her post here - https://margaretsdesignercards.blogspot.com/2023/12/endrucks-projects-october-and-november.html

14. Maria Renee C de Andretta - was happy to have accomplished her 'challenge'.

15. Mariola Siwek - was also full of joy with her "antique blue snowflake". She used thread Kaja/15 from Ariadna company.

16. Martina Reinhold - promised this was her "first flock and many more to come"! We'll be waiting.

17. Meenakshi (Muskaan) Jain - These are two of my completed flakes. I had started the designprocess back in March (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/03/antics.html) as an offshoot idea from the Feb game.

This is actually a pale lavender Olympus size 40 (more clearly visible here - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/11/flaky-antics.html) but the background changed it to almost white.
This one is in Lizbeth size 20. Interestingly both threads are the same size despite the labels.

18. Ninetta Caruso - graciously worked the flake for a stepwise pictorial and also uploaded a video for split chain! Details shared here - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/11/game-antics.html

19. Pam Bray - also learned a few techniques through this flake and was satisfied with her first trial.

20. Paola Bevilacqua - tatted her's in silver metallic and ....
... then added blue & white beads and suspended it within a wreath...

Spectacular!

21. Paola Emilia Rotuletti - is arguably the Fastest Shuttler in our group, usually belting out multiple versions in several of our games! She won the contest in December last year, too.
Her first which she wasn't satisfied with,

and then went on to make FIVE more, each in a different shade! The top right is worked in 2 colours.

22. Pina Barone - "Inspiring reason to learn new execution techniques."

23. Riva Nudelman - a golden beauty ....
"For H I tried ring on ring technique instead of SCMR. It worked for me better."
We are spoiled for choices! Tatting techniques offer a wide range of options and we can choose to apply whichever we prefer without altering the pattern in any way.

24. Silvana Buonvino - created a lovely Christmassy effect with the addition of red berry-like crystal beads!

25. Sophie Ecru - "Its such a joy and fun to make these for my preparation of the coming Xmas! Absolutely recommend tatting lovers to make one. ...... Threads: @gaeul_toto ETTE HDT#60&#30, @alloyoung Lizbeth HDT#40"

Such a beautiful display!!!
Honestly, like I said in my previous post, it is so difficult to choose only one as the lead pic for each post! Making a collage doesn't help, with the images miniaturized.

And as I post this, Melanie Cervi has already started her flake, and Jane McLellan has it in her to-tat-again list! (http://picotsnkeys.blogspot.com/2023/12/another-interruption.html). I will update accordingly - in fact there is a lineup of late arrivals for various other games and these will all be posted together in a roundup of roundups ;-D

For the present, though we have 25 'known' participants and 42 models/versions!

As always, Ninetta joins me in thanking each of our participants, not just for tatting and showing at least one snowflake, but in many cases for learning something new so that they could work the motif!

Many many thanks to each and every participant for all the wonderful work!

multiply me roundup 2

Pin It now!

I enjoy doing roundups, despite the time it takes to collect, notate, organise pics. The reason is that I get to see them up close and often notice something I had seen before. Little tweaks, embellishments, etc. Occasionally the tatter gives us some details when they post; most often they don't. Hence, roundups are an eye-opener.

Continuing from my previous post (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/11/multiply-me-roundup-1.html), here are the remaining models for #MultiplyMeEndrucks Oct2023 game.

7. Margaret Davies - 3  We have another regular player in Margaret, always with her own take.

Inspired by the bead placements in my earrings, Margaret tatted this lovely parure! I'm sure she will share more details when she blogs about it. (https://margaretsdesignercards.blogspot.com/)

8. Michelle Forclaz - 3 also tatted 3 motifs but just look ---
Now isn't that one super cute turtle! It is great to see what another tatter sees.

Her second, and
third motifs in soft shades while playing with options and effects. Notice how she inserted a single round of beige in the pink rosette!

9. Paola Bevilacqua - 3  Paola is never far behind either!

The Iris pendant complete with a 2-colour split ring braid. It appears like she used 3 shades in the pendant.
Her 5-point adaptation to cover the top of a bauble ornament, and
a 6-point adaptation at the lower end! Both motifs are sewn together with the same thread.

10. Silvana Buonvino - 3  Always happy to see Silvana's regular and enthusiastic participation in our games!
Her first motif in metallic threads and a few beads sewn in later.

Iris pendant in gold with white seed beads and a lovely cord for the necklace.

This came in a yesterday as a wonderful surprise. The Multiply Me Flower Flake where she shortened the chains between the arms to (2 - 2) and used long decorative picots instead of wide picots.

11. Alicia Fullana - 2  Our new member

She appliqued the first motif on a bow neck shirt. Notice the colour switch in the rosette. And  she clearly did not use lock joins.

Her second motif is appliqued on a short sleeve shirt!

12. Antonia Lai - 2   loves to participate regularly, too!

Her first Iris pendant, and
her second Iris pendant! She started tatting with metallic threads quite recently.

13. Cynthia Dooley - 2  is one of our needle tatters. She tatted both these bookmarks a while back, but we asked her to enter them in the game.
Her first motif as a square with a lovely ombre effect, and an interlocking SR braid as tail, ending with a 3-layered flower charm.
Her second motif is displayed as a diamond with the tail emerging from a tip. Here the charm is a 2-layered flower.
It's a great way to use motifs and also to learn techniques.

14. Debra F. Cox - 2  an enthusiastic learner-tatter

Lovely shade of blue, and I love the addition of grey. She says she's working on a multicolour mat. Waiting to see how it turns out!

15. Mariola Siwek - 1  I got to see her beautiful tatting when she participated in the DAL Celtic Snowflake 'challenge'.
She took up the task of flattening the Multiply Me Flower Flake (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/10/wanna-multiply.html) and used double picots instead of wide picots.
She shared her simple solution - start with an increased count in the rosette and reduce the number of rounds! Beyond this, she did not change anything. It's a beautiful variation.
I will try to upload the final pdf including these variations as soon as possible.

16. Martina Reinhold - 1  our first-time participant and hopefully a regular.
This vibrantly coloured motif with alternating colours in the rosette, is her submission.

17. Reiko Akamatsu - 1   our hugely talented volunteer and participant!
She tatted the Iris pendant as a motif. She actually worked a half-finished prototype/trial before making this lovely version.

18. Riva Nudelman - 1  We are getting to see more of her tatting ...
A beautiful rendition in two colours!

And with that, we come to the end of the roundup for or October game. There are always a few straddlers that I show in a separate post.

In this post we have 12 tatters with 24 models including variations.
This brings us to a total of 18 participants and 66 models, with numerous variations and adaptations! [UPDATE 17th Nov 2023: 5 more models have been received, taking the grand total to 71!]
All the images are uploaded to our FB album and the variations are uploaded to respective Directories. Links are at the top of the right panel in this blog.

Many many many thanks to all our participants for multiplying the joy
of tatting an Endrucks pattern and creating more derivatives!
