 28th June is Eleonore Endrucks' birth anniversary and we had shared 6 derivatives of the E monogram for a combined ILD 2026 and birthday celebrations. I got so caught up that I tatted all six ... they are fairly quick tats anyways. 

So, here's wishing our designer of Endrucks 1920 Project a very Happeeeeee Birthday with expectations that she would be looking down on her Endrucksian tribe with pride.

All worked in size 20 threads (though some are closer to Lizbeth size 10) and arranged in ascending order for comparison.

My original idea was to arrange them in an arc as if we were calling out in a rising crescendo but it didn't quite make the mark as seen above.

Measurement: 3cm wide, 4cm high.

Measurement: slightly more than 4cm x 4cm.

Letter E from E41 by Julie Villegas. This was an easy and quick tat.

Measurement: 3½ cm wide, 4½ cm high

Letter E from E1 by Vani Kattoju. I have tatted sooo many E1 original/reworked and derivative patterns that my motor memory kicked in and I made a mistake in the vertical chains. Instead of 4ds between picots, I made 3ds as in the original. Discovered this only on the return journey and had to un-tat a few segments before tweaking the count by 1 less stitch each. Thankfully it doe not seem to have made difference.

My slight tweak which isn't too obvious since I did it too late - In the 2nd motif I shortened chains and rings in the arms by 1ds to make the horizontal arm of E shorter than the end ones.

I was forced to play thread chicken for several of the final elements but managed to have just enough tails left to be able to sew them in. Reposition methods help a great deal as did not cutting for 2nd row - simply made a slip stitch.

Measurement: 4cm wide, approx 6cm high.

And when it is rotated we get some interesting possibilities! I see a chandelier, a bowl, but also an elephant, LOL.

Letter E from E41 by Ninetta Caruso. Now I had always intended to tat this with bugle beads, but this time I went for speed. And I was so inspired by Ninetta's version of Julie's E (for ILD) that I copied her colourway ;-D

Measurement: 4cm wide, > 6½ cm high

Letter E from E17 by Manju Talekar. I could've done a better job with sharper angles and straighter lines. 

Measurement: 5cm wide, >7cm high.

I was impressed by Lauretta Tondelli's experiments and effects which she shared in a FB group a couple of years back (she seems to have left FB when I checked before finalising this post and her posts are missing, too). Always meant to try them and here are two attempts - my first trials. Not happy but more details below ....

Lauretta Tondelli's Interlaced Onion Rings, a trial motif, placed inside a 2D medallion gone 3D!

 

The two images above show the piece from the 'front' and 'back' though it really depends on how you interlace the mock rings.

This interlacing effect of onion rings is made with one continuous chain starting with a small starter picot. Once all three mock rings made, they are interlaced through each other. Lauretta created a cute pair of earrings using this motif as the center and adding a teardrop.

My own reservation is about the third chain which I feel is too long in my trial and also the overall untidy visual. First trials, so perhaps there is still hope for me.

Okay this motif is supposed to be a flat medallion center for another effect that Lauretta was sharing. As you can see, my work has cupped enormously. I realised what was happening but continued nevertheless so that I can make the requisite changes in my next trial. For one, the picots should've been longer.

So now my issue was what should I make with this! It looks cute and has potential, doens't it? So I played around a bit ....

If we upturn the medallion it can make a nice bezel setting and one can add another layer beneath encasing the gem. I was too lazy to hunt around for the right sized gem, though.

I decided to add a base. This is a coil starting at the center with few slope and roll joins as the chain progressed. I should've stopped a bit sooner with a shorter coil.

The reason for the base is my idea to convert this into a miniature basket.

Same 'bowl' reshaped into a squarish bowl or potential basket.

And when I pinched the corners a bit more, ....

Some more pinching so that the cupping looks deeper and with addition of accessories, it can become a flower.

So, what is your verdict? What do you think it should grow into?

Is it a fan, a cat, a swan, or a peacock?! May be even part of a barge? Or a slice of a potential doily? Actually, each stage has the potential to be used as something whether alone, tiled, or in combo. I am talking about Anita Barry's FanCatstic purse pattern which I wrote about in my last post, along with the PDF link -https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2025/09/its-fancatstic.html 

Here I share pics of my own tatted cat worked in Anchor size 50. This was tatted back in 2018 in order to be sure to diagram it correctly, hence I no longer remember the nuances. Fortunately, a bit of hunting threw up a draft post in blogger with a few notes. So without further ado, let's scroll through the stage-wise pics and enjoy the possibilities and shapes that emerge.

Is it a mini hand fan perhaps for a doll?! Makes for a good jewellery piece, too, with additional bling and findings.
Didn't have right sized beads but thought these would work. Should’ve used larger beads.

This appears like a blossoming flower and also has an arabesque mural effect.

Love this! Already looks like a fan.

Among the notes I mentioned, a couple don't seem to make sense to me now unless I sit and compare the pattern in detail. Best to ignore that rather than create confusion.

And this could be worked in the round for a beautiful doily!

Body completed.

To compensate for the small beads at the beginning,  I included larger pearl beads. I like the combo, better seen in the next image.

The tail is added. 

I would've liked to leave the tail tip unattached so that it curls naturally over the body. Not that it would work for the purse though. 

Though the green beads fade into the background, I like the lace on this black background. Hence boring you with picture-pairs ;-P

Body and tail completed and model turned 90degrees.. The purse part needs to be sewn and lace attached to it, besides the other accessorising. I didn't do it, which is why I say it is still a WIP. Complete pattern PDF link in my previous post.

 

So, doesn't this look like a peacock??? Notice how I drew a pair of pointed chains for the legs. 

And here it looks like a swan serenely gliding over water! This pic is courtesy Sharada, to whom it was gifted.

If we extend the neck/body behind, I can visualise it as Queen Cleopatra's royal barge as she cruises down the Nile! If I wasn't so lazy, I'd have taken a pic from Asterix and Cleopatra (one of The Best of these comics) to accompany this 'barge'.

a 3 in 1 leaf

Ninetta has announced our new game for the month of October however I couldn't post my second submission for September in time even though I finished tatting it on the night of 30th Sep ;-D

 What can I say! When I have multiples of any motif I enjoy rearranging them to see what shapes emerge. I've already shown several such for the E15 Leaf Doodle #1. This motif is so adaptable that it boggles my mind. (All links related to E15 leaves are at the end of this post)

This time I took all three versions (tatted back in Dec2023) and thought the arrangement looked very much like the leaf of a grape plant. All that was needed was to tat an edge all around them, keeping them in place and wouldn't take too long.

I placed them again on blank paper and drew an outline in pencil. Took a pic. I referred back to the pic several times to confirm where to join. 

Used Victorian sets with a few picots thrown in for a textured outline. A darker shade of thread was an oopsie, not deliberate, LOL.

TIP: In Victorian sets, make the picot between 1st half-stitch set and 2nd half-stitch set for it to face outward. And a slightly longer picot.

I was simply winging it and have no stitch count. There is a very short split chain at the base to center the stem. I've left a few inches of tails for future addition.

Tatting didn't take long as expected, but unfortunately  I couldn't include the intended bunch of grapes in time. Task for future, hopefully within this month. 

If you look closely you will also see a bit of a mess in the center. No sweat! In nature perhaps a little birdie or a caterpillar shredded a portion and that's what it is ;-D

I think this looks better in real than in the pics - hubby identified it immediately as a grape leaf - and I could've done a better job. Nevertheless the joy counts for a great deal! Call it Leaf Relief!!!

 I wasn't going to participate in this month's game thinking I might not be able to find the time. However our members are always so inspiring and following my own declaration that it tats up quickly, one night I picked up my materials. As it is, I've been on a good tatting spree, making progress on the Glossary samples and entries.

Laurel Leaf : I visualized a long narrow leaf and simply winged it. The right side is basically the same pattern with more repeats. The return back is my variation on the go.

Birdie #1 Idea : At this stage doesn't it look like a bird looking over its shoulder?!

Birdie #2 Idea : And at the very end, from this angle, it is definitely a birdie!

One can add details or leave the impressionist look.

In Sanbest #11, three strands, it is 5 cms long and 1.5 cms wide.

When I tatted this, nobody had yet worked it in metallic. And also because I wanted it to hold its shape and be able to twist it if needed.... because .... 

it was to go on a paperclip!

Or flattened out - leaf or birdie on paperclip.

Worked with one shuttle and ball. Hence I had to use mock rings in a few places on the way back.

So one more variant gets added to the power of this E15 motif! More adaptations and ideas in links listed below. And several more to come from our participants when I do the round-up!

I have one more idea in mind. Let's see if it can be done in time ....

Like I said, I've been in a very relaxed frame of mind probably because I could tat almost daily and yet make consistent progress on the book. However, my blog did get neglected since I tried to stay focused. Multi-tasking is not all it is touted to be, LOL.

E15 leafy bonanza

 Now this was tatted back in May for the InflateMeEndrucks game and my inner child, as usual, wanted to arrange them to see what new shapes emerged! But the old woman in me promptly forgot to share the pics. LOL. Fortunately, I found them right on time for our new game this month - Leaf Me Endrucks! More about that in the next post. 

Although the game is confined to tatting leaves, it will be interesting to see how they will be used/applied. To that end Ninetta and I thought it okay to share some ideas.

Let me simply show you what I have within my limited imagination. Of course, some tweaks will be required - something added, something deleted, some colours changed, and so on - to bring them to life. I sincerely hope you can find more ideas and figures beyond the ones my eyes saw and write it in the comments.

But first, the pattern is E15 Leaf Doodle #1 (derived from Endrucks' 1920 pattern #15) with additional picots along the edge for sewing (immaterial to the shape). Also, if the chain H is shortened to 4ds instead of 6ds, the leaf turns out flat. And since I tat frontside/backside, the leaves are mirror images.
