In November, our Chiacchierino FB group held an event. Daniella Galli diagrammed and presented a 3D angel pattern designed by Rita Santoro - Angelo Veuliah.

The skirt/gown looked like a bell and I was immediately tempted to tat one.

This is in Chameleon Sanbest 6 strands. It is most definitely true to its name! It actually changes from a musty gold in the shade to a vibrant green in sunlight!!! Wow.

The After version with beads, and other knickknacks strung through.

It is worked in one pass. My tatting could've been better, but ...... 

I also tatted one wing in regular thread. My idea was to tat several and use them as petals for a flower. However the single wing is still on the shuttles. Perhaps some day ...

I was supposed to do this post in November, but I got entangled in other stuff and completely forgot about it! Better late, despite the extra task of re-inking the pics to change Nov to Dec.

Good friend Margaret Davies (https://margaretsdesignercards.blogspot.com/) has been a very active participant in our FB events, sharing her tweaks and adaptations as well as her trials and patterns.  (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/09/aug-roundup-1.html). 

Back in July (https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2022/07/heart-pattern.html) I had shared the prototype pattern for a heart extracted from Endrucks' pattern #37, even though I was not happy with it's proportion. Margaret jumped in to enlarge the heart. Such a simple and effective solution to raise the height by adding a ring on either side!

When she posted her pic, someone thought it looked like an angel, and she again took up the gauntlet and converted the enlarged heart into an angel! We asked her to share her pattern for our November FB event and she enthusiastically agreed, sending in the written patterns. 

While tatting it to prepare for the game, #tagmeEndrucks, I noticed that it made a beautiful bell when turned on it's head. Thus we have 3 patterns in one - angelic!

This is my completed angel, worked in 2 colours for the tat-along. You have seen parts of it in 2 earlier posts (links below) but not the complete model. This is such a versatile pattern in the sense that we can follow different paths, use different techniques, embellish in numerous ways, and use in different ways, too.

For the tat-along I deliberately left out the beads in my model though the diagram and written pattern in the pdf follow Margaret's beaded models.

I will need multiple posts to showcase all the models that came in, some with very interesting tweaks or displays. Stay tuned to be inspired! Meanwhile hope you enjoy our little gift to adorn your festive season.

#12 A&B - in Land of Laces’ 25 Snowflake Project

MatheMagical Bells (2D & 3D)

Why do I do it?! Thinking it would go faster since I already had patterns and diagrams for the MatheMagical series, I chose this for pdf. Sigh, it took me over 5 evenings to get it all straightened, with Numerous changes in the diagrams.

And yet, if made again, I would work the 3D bell differently as highlighted in a note.

It is easier to work the 3 panels of a 3D bell in counterclockwise (turning right at the base without connecting chain) direction rather than the clockwise (turning left after the long base chain) path I took. But I already had pics, and had already spent ginormous amount of time, so let it remain as a Note.

I have also added the count for the silver 3D bell, in case somebody prefers a narrow version.

I’d taken pics of the 3D bell alongside all other bells I could find – glass, silver, wood, papier maché, etc. Whether taken singly or in as a collection, the pics came out either tacky or ‘overkill’ (hubby’s observation).

So, why do I do it? It’s not as if my patterns are popular or anything.

I guess, it’s just this commitment I made to myself and I’d like to at least see Some series through to the end, including the posting! I won’t even think of all the other series I began and either didn’t complete, or didn’t post the final few.

#12B in Land of Laces’ 25 Snowflake Project

Remember I spoke about a 3D version? Why didn’t the bell in my head toll?! I totally forgot to blog about this. I did start to draw and write up the pattern earlier in the week, but then the bell went silent ;-D

I don't want my blog to go silent .... Sharing only pics here. Pattern pending. I’ll update this post and Google Docs with the link when it is done.

This silver version was made first. 

Tatted in one pass using 2 shuttles, ctm. 

Stitch count is almost exactly that of the tree. 

However, the form looked too narrow.

Started the gold one with a slightly broader base. I like this much better.

Single clapper on a doubled-up thread.

The top has been pulled while photographing, otherwise it has a nice bell-jar curve.

Final measurement in Red Rose metallic size 20 thread, is about 3½cms tall and 3cms wide.

Photos don't do full justice. I tried taking a video, but that wasn't any great shakes either.

Meanwhile I did tat the Sparkle snowflake but cannot find the updated pattern I had typed in 2017/18!!! I have a printout, so it is definitely in my files here somewhere.

I also have a new snowflake for this weekend. And it might become a kind of group project... more about that on Sunday :-)))

#11 & #12A in Land of Laces’ 25 Snowflake Project

A week has passed since I last worked on the computer. I have posted 2 snowflake projects on facebook just so I don’t miss out since I only have 1 ‘free’ Sunday left ;-D Lots of patterns to write out…

I am taking this opportunity to post at least one pattern here – a 2D bell. When the 3D version is reworked and written out, I’ll combine both into a pdf.

The MatheMagical pattern has turned out to be quite versatile indeed – stars, tree, bells (and a possible angel, and later a coaster/doily, in future!!!). 

I first made a bell in silver metallic, without changing the original tree count (from which it is directly derived). Turned out to be a bit tubular. Then I took courage and tweaked the chain count and am so much happier with this version in gold! My tatting excitement has returned as well, lol.

MatheMagical Bell (2D) pattern

ctm - continuous thread ; - - picot ; dnrw - do not reverse work ; + - join ; rw - reverse work ; SS - switch shuttle.

Snowflake Sparkle

And this is my 11^th snowflake where I’ve cheated a bit (I didn’t actually tat a new model this time, but will do so this week)…. 

If you remember, it is a 2015 pattern which I improved in 2017 but the updated pattern still hasn’t been shared. This image is from 2017 and I want to tat a new model in metallic thread before I feel confident of sharing the revised pattern.
