leaf to star spinoff

A large majority of our games in the FB group have ended up with more spin-offs and patterns than what we originally went in with. The same happened with the #LeafMeEndrucks Sep2024 game where you got to see the beautiful versions collated in four roundup posts (links at the end). One such is a star (which started out as a starfish) born from the combination of five E15 Leaf Doodles #2.

Manju sent in her drawing with the stitch counts, notes and tips and we soon converted it into an Inkscape diagram and complete presentation.

The negative space in the center created when 5 leaves are joined, is filled with a simple medallion.

NOTE: The model can be tatted continuously (in one pass) by climbing out of the center motif with a split chain and climbing into the first arm with a split ring. This option is provided in the PDF.

It didn't take long at all for some members to jump in with their versions!

Gelsomina Carbone - (Nov2024) 

Now isn't this interesting how Gelsomina arranged the star as a flower with a large bead in the center!

Jessica Hanson - (Oct2024 and Oct2025)

Notice that she did away with all decorative picots, giving clean outlines and a sharper star shape!

Such lovely backgrounds!

Jessica tatted her white version last year and showed us the two pink models earlier this month. She considers this one of her favourites!

Notice that the lower model has beads - minimalist but strategically placed. Let me repeat what she asked in FB to help her decide, and perhaps you can pitch in with your preference -- 

"To bead or not to bead? Which do you like better?"

Liberata Cacciottolo - (Nov2024)

This version in metallic thread looks quite sparkly with relatively long picots and the shadows seemingly uplifting the model!

Mela Cabo - (Feb2025)

Another lovely shade of metallic thread and a nice background . 

Silvana Buonvino - (Nov2024)

Silvana's silver center and gold arms highlight the pattern in a way different from the monocolour ones.

Now that it is stars and snowflakes time of the year, we expect plenty more models to fall into our lap!

Now this E15 motif is so versatile that I myself adapted it to one or more versions of leaves, tree, candle flames, bell, poinsettia, maize, etc. etc. And a year before this leafy star, Paola Emilia Rotuletti created the E15 Star (Oct2023) which was also used in the Dec2023 game. Moreover, if you remember, Manju herself also created the enigmatic E15 Ganesh, E15 Holly Leaves, etc., during the game.

In case I can't take pics in time to wish you tomorrow (waiting for some sunshine), let this bell toll away the old year and ring in the new with bright cheer and good health.

The 2nd contingent of bells and angels are on show here. This is a tertiary adaptation of Endrucks' pattern #37 by Margaret Davies for our #tagmeEndrucks game in November 2022.

11. Paola Emilia Rotuletti, always enthusiastic, tatted both the bell and angel.

12. Paola Bevilacqua also a prolific tatter, worked at least 3 bells and added them to her glass and crystal bell collection.

13. Pam Hemenway tatted this Christmassy angel in needle.

14. Olga F Vincencio joined us for the first time with her beaded bell.

15. Ninetta Caruso lifted her angel's wings using treble stitches and also added a halo.

16. Muskaan tatted this angel in size 20 hued maroon. 

This gold beaded bell has a missing ring on either side, hence it is a bit shorter. In place of the ring below, I continued with a lock chain of 3 or 4 stitches, moved the large gold bead in place and returned back with another lock stitch chain.

More of the models (some unfinished and discarded) were worked while doing the stepwise presentation for the game and for the respective pdfs.

17. Mela Cabo is another tatter who always joins in and has tatted several E patterns.

This teal angel has the middle chains parted, thus decreasing the negative space.

18. Maria Renee also joined for the first time with her 2-toned bell.

19. Margaret Davies shared her version of the bells. These are her notes -

'Here is the photo of my bells, when I got to the ring at the bottom, I attached the chain but before doing the ring I did a chain of 3ds, then made the ring with the beads around the edge and a larger bead in the middle, closed the ring a chain of 3 ds joined to the chain and carried on with the chain to the end.

The stitch count for the ring was the same'

 I'm sure you must have enjoyed the hearty spread in my 2 previous posts. This is the final serving for our 'pretty me aug 2022' FB event. While all our participants are on Facebook, some joined us through blogs and Instagram, too. They encompass a diverse set of tools, experience, and skills, besides imagination. 

11. Marina MadJar Tatting - shared her key chain pendant adaptation pattern. 

12. Margaret Davies - Margaret really went to town with her hearts - trials, patterns, and all! I've lost count of the number of trials she posted, including a discarded attempt at a butterfly within the heart.

Besides sharing her enlarged heart and bookmark patterns, she tatted this earring and pendant set, adding a tiny ring at the tip to hold findings. The pendant differs from Lella Loops' pendant in the previous post, in the number of joins between motifs.

13. Meenakshi (muskaan) Jain - While preparing presentations for the original pattern and for the spin-offs, I had plenty of opportunity to tat more hearts, starting with my Indian Flag earring version;

Ninetta's coaster which I am using daily;

Margaret's enlarged heart - in the 2nd one I increased the chain length;

and finally Margaret's bookmark. Would look lovely as a bracelet embellished with beads.

14. Mela Cabo followed my example and worked a pair of mirrored earrings in metallics.  

15. Ninetta Caruso had tatted her coaster in size 80 (4cms) and inserted it in this key chain

16. Paola Bevilacqua had worked her earrings as soon as the notated pattern was shared in the blog in June.

17. Ruth Palsson (stitchingbushwalker) has been tatting for only about a year and kept working on the heart motifs till she was finally satisfied with her joins, her bead/crystal sizes, etc. 

In the trio below, Ruth added a metallic machine embroidery thread to add that bit of sparkle. She will be using the heart(s) for a lucky door prize.

18. Sharada Rajan worked in size 80 for a pair of earrings before the event;

and encapsulated a 3rd heart within the key chain.

19. Stephanie Mc (Tattimic) shared her butterfly pattern.

And there can be no better words to express our sentiments, than what my partner in this crime, Ninetta Caruso, has to say -

I'm very happy to see all the prettyfied hearts shared for the August #prettymeEndrucks event. Thank you very much, Muskaan and everyone of you! It was amazing how many of you felt involved and actively participated. 😘 This was only our first event -  there's an Italian expression that sounds like: "a good day can be seen from the morning". Hence, this cascade of creativity is exactly what we had hoped for our group!

We are preparing many more events, besides the current #extractmeEndrucks game. It seems this book is like magic, an incredible and endless source of inspiration; when you think you're done, there will always be another rabbit to be pulled out of Endrucks' hat!
