Or more accurately, swept under
the carpet during blogger’s spring cleaning! Probably dumped forever.
Blogger has discontinued comment
notification through email (it no longer supports OpenID) for the last couple of weeks.
It’s a bit inconvenient, but I’ve
found my extra steps to get around this mess since I don’t want to hamper ease, freedom
and openness when leaving a comment. I don't want to moderate if I can help it.
Here’s what I do now ….
- When I publish a new post, I tick the “Notify me” box and voilà I
receive your comments in my Inbox. I’ve done this for my last few posts but not the
almost 375 prior posts.
- I now check ‘Comments’ on my blogger dashboard every day, to make
sure nobody has left a comment on those past posts. I’d hate to miss a
question …
((Huh, if only I can remember ! I forgot to click on notify me when I published ;-P ))
Further, since OpenID is out, only those with a gmail account will see their name/avatar in the comment. For others it will be published as 'Anonymous', in case some of you have been wondering. So make sure you leave your name or avatar so we bloggers know who to thank.

I hope my dear readers will continue to support and comment. You can also email me through my Profile page.
ZZZZZ
Yes, the changes are a bit disconcerting, especially as there was no notice of the changes. You'd think Blogger might have sent an e-mail to let us know we would no longer receive e-mail notification of comments!
ReplyDeleteYou're funny, Jane :-D Can't stop grinning at your 'rant' ;-P
DeleteI saw a pop-up in blogger that they no longer support OpenID but there was no mention of email notifications going away. It doesn't seem like a logical conclusion from the removal of OpenID. I will be checking my blogs for new comments on the dashboard too because I don't like comment moderation either. I really hope they bring automatic notifications back...
ReplyDeleteLavi, if you follow that link, there are comments left by bloggers under the spring-cleaning article. But like you say, since it is not specified in the article, it gives me hope that perhaps in future they may reinstate it.
DeleteThank you, you're very helpful as always, I've been getting mad for a week about it! Maybe they're preparing another new brand app that will offer only notifications :-(
ReplyDeleteI waited patiently during the entire Memorial Day weekend thinking it might be a glitch, Ninetta, and hoping it will get fixed once they are back. Didn't happen, so investigated and found my own solutions.
DeletePlease, no more apps ;-P
by the way, here's the link to their article : https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/blogger/Wuem4GoXYXo
ReplyDeleteI learn something new every day🤔
ReplyDeleteI go hunting only when the need arises, Carollyn ;-P
