E15 leafy bonanza

Pin It now!

Now this was tatted back in May for the InflateMeEndrucks game and my inner child, as usual, wanted to arrange them to see what new shapes emerged! But the old woman in me promptly forgot to share the pics. LOL. Fortunately, I found them right on time for our new game this month - Leaf Me Endrucks! More about that in the next post.

Although the game is confined to tatting leaves, it will be interesting to see how they will be used/applied. To that end Ninetta and I thought it okay to share some ideas.

Let me simply show you what I have within my limited imagination. Of course, some tweaks will be required - something added, something deleted, some colours changed, and so on - to bring them to life. I sincerely hope you can find more ideas and figures beyond the ones my eyes saw and write it in the comments.

But first, the pattern is E15 Leaf Doodle #1 (derived from Endrucks' 1920 pattern #15) with additional picots along the edge for sewing (immaterial to the shape). Also, if the chain H is shortened to 4ds instead of 6ds, the leaf turns out flat. And since I tat frontside/backside, the leaves are mirror images. or along a side for polygonal shapes.

10. a big fat Pheasant ; Hedgehog ; Turtle ; Weevil ; Kiwi ; Rhea
and if you feed in 'arrangements' in the search box, you will find many more such arrangement ideas for various types of motifs, including from Endrucks (but not all are showing up...perhaps I can do a roundup at some future date to refresh my own memory!)

    1. Thanks, Jane ☘️🌿☘️ This is almost the same shade I am seeing around me in the ongoing rainy season.

  2. Depending on the season where our tatters live, leaves are not always green.

    1. Why only tatters, Anonymous? I would think any sighted person older than a toddler would be aware of it, LOL. 🍀🍀🍀

    2. Wit? Why then are all your pattern pages green?

    3. Maybe green is her favorite colour.

    4. Ah, could be so many reasons, Anonymous! (Wish you had revealed your name so I could address you directly.)

      1. Personal preference? The universality of colour green for leaves. Not all trees are deciduous.
      2. The dominance/importance of the monsoon season here. There’s a Hindi proverb here - Saavan ke andhe ko hara hi dikhta hai" which translates to "A blind person in the monsoon sees only green." Perhaps I’m blind to other colours… I’m a Cancerian and there’s not been a single year when it did not rain on my birthday bringing freshness and greenery.
      3. Perhaps I don’t have the desired colourways or not in the desired thread size.
      4. Laziness – trying to avoid winding up the shuttle after every tiny leaf tatted.
      5. Need to use a bold and easily visible colour shade in slightly thicker thread especially when making prototypes.
      6. Why spoon-feed? Tatters have intelligence enough to choose their own colours and freedom to tweak, embellish, and improve.

Take your pick since all or any of the above apply to patterns I share. Hope this satisfies your angst at seeing only green in my pattern pages, LOL.

    5. I needed to add a 7th reason (time compounded by health) when I realised an error in the translation of the Hindi proverb. It should actually be 'A person blinded by monsoons sees only green'

    1. Thank you so much, splocik 💚 This post only shows arrangements. In my older post - https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2023/12/the-power-of-15.html you can see what more can be done with the same basic motif.
